Mississippi State Fires Head Coach Zach Arnett
Arnett Relieved of Duties After Less Than One Season
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State Director of Athletics Zac Selmon announced Monday that Zach Arnett has been relieved of his duties as head football coach. Arnett, who took over the Bulldogs program in December 2021, was fired after less than one season at the helm.
Proven Leader and Analyst
Arnett, 36, is a proven leader and analyst who spent seven seasons as a defensive coordinator at Mississippi State before being promoted to the head coaching position. He also had a successful playing career as a safety at Missouri from 2005 to 2009.
Departure After Brief Tenure
Arnett's departure comes after a disappointing 3-9 season for the Bulldogs. He went 0-8 in Southeastern Conference play and failed to lead the team to a bowl game. The Bulldogs struggled defensively throughout the season, ranking near the bottom of the FBS in several key categories.
