Kobe Bryant's Personal Trainer Recalls Early Years of Their Training
Carbone Remembers Bryant's Draft Preparation
In a recent interview, Joe Carbone, the former personal trainer of the late Kobe Bryant, shared insights into their early training sessions and Bryant's preparation for the NBA draft.
Carbone: "He Was Determined"
Carbone, who is currently a teacher at The Equity Project TEP charter school in Manhattan, described Bryant as an incredibly determined young athlete. "He had this intense focus and drive that was unmatched," Carbone said. "He was always willing to push himself to the limit, and he never gave up."
Draft Preparations
Carbone was hired by Joe Bryant, Kobe's father, to be his son's full-time personal trainer in March of 1996. At the time, Bryant was preparing for the upcoming NBA draft. After working out for several NBA teams, Bryant's stock quickly rose, and he was eventually selected 13th overall by the Charlotte Hornets.
Early Success
Kobe Bryant went on to have a legendary NBA career, winning five championships with the Los Angeles Lakers. Carbone believes that Bryant's early training and preparation laid the foundation for his success. "He was a special athlete with a unique combination of talent, determination, and work ethic," Carbone said. "I'm proud to have been a part of his journey."
